Poll: 83 percent oppose allowing knives on airplanes

{mosads}TSA announced last month that it was delaying the new knife rule due to the intense pushback it received from lawmakers and aviation groups, but the APFA poll found 90 percent of voters thought the current ban was better. 

APFA President Laura Glading said the poll confirmed the flight attendant union’s stance.

“These numbers confirm that the American people have the same common sense approach to aviation security that flight attendants, pilots, air marshals, airline management, and even TSA screeners share,” Glading said in a statement.  “I hope [Homeland Security] Secretary [Janet] Napolitano and [TSA] Administrator [John] Pistole will consider this data and vacate their decision to allow knives on planes once and for all.”

The survey, which was conducted for APFA by the polling firm Penn Schoen Berland, asked voters “is the policy of prohibiting passengers from carrying knives on commercial flights a good policy or is it a policy that should be changed” and “do you think it would be better to keep the current policy of no knives or is it time to change TSA policy and allow certain knives aboard?”
