American Airlines on Tuesday hosted its largest relief effort in the company’s 92-year history to aid victims of the California wildfires.
More than 100 employees in Phoenix volunteered to assemble Red Cross care packages at the cargo hub of the Sky Harbor Airport, according to the airline.
{mosads}The volunteers packaged 20,000 hygiene kits including necessities like toothbrushes and shampoo, which will be shipped to Californians who were displaced or lost their homes when wildfires ravaged the state.
“We are very excited about all of our team members that are here today … the outreach from our team members has been phenomenal,” Suzanne Boda, senior vice president of American Airlines in Los Angeles, told Phoenix’s CBS affiliate.
Boda told the outlet that American Airlines is “very proud” of its long-standing partnership with the Red Cross.
Donations of $25 made to the Red Cross through the American Airlines website will add 250 miles to an advantage account.
The Camp Fire in Northern California has killed at least 84 people and 475 residents are still missing, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection officials said on Friday.
That fire was one of three major wildfires that devastated the state this month.
