Black-box data from Ethiopia crash shows ‘clear similarity’ to Indonesia crash: official

Black-box data from last week’s Ethiopian Airlines crash shows a “clear similarity” with last year’s accident in Indonesia, Ethiopia’s transportation minister said Sunday.

“During the investigation of the FDR [flight data recorder] clear similarities were noted between Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 and Indonesian Lion Air Flight 610, which will be subject of further investigation,” Dagmawit Moges she told reporters, according to the Associated Press.

Moges said that the black box, the data and voice record of the flight, was in good enough condition for her ministry to release a detailed report in 30 days.

{mosads}“The black box has been found in a good condition that enabled us to extract almost all the data inside,” she said.

Both the Ethiopian Airlines crash, which killed 157, and October’s Lion Air accident, which killed 189, involved the Boeing 737 Max 8 airplane.

In the aftermath of last week’s crash, countries and airlines around the world grounded the plane, as well as the Boeing 737 Max 9.

Concerns have emerged that faulty sensors and software might have contributed to the the crashes.

The Federal Aviation Administration has said that satellite data of both flights showed erratic altitude changes during takeoff, which could be evidence that the pilots struggled with the plane.
