Delta flight makes emergency landing at Dulles

Greg Nash

A Delta Airlines aircraft bound for Richmond, Va., made an emergency landing on Tuesday at a Washington, D.C., airport due to an issue with the plane’s wheels.

The plane rerouted to Dulles International Airport after taking off from LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York.

The ExpressJet flight was functioning as a Delta connection between New York and Richmond, a spokesperson for ExpressJet said. The plane made a safe landing and no injuries were reported.

News of the emergency landing comes hours after one person died when a Southwest Airlines plane traveling between LaGuardia and Dallas was forced to make an emergency landing in Philadelphia. A window shattered and pulled a passenger partially out of the aircraft.

The passenger was reportedly sent to a hospital in Philadelphia.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it is dispatching a team to Philadelphia to investigate the incident.
