The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on Monday apologized to an NFL player after his mother’s ashes spilled in his suitcase following a TSA baggage check.

New York Giants defensive tackle A.J. Francis on Monday sent a tweet saying that his mother’s remains were spilled in his bag.

{mosads}“Hey you pieces of shit at @TSA next time you assholes feel the need to go thru my mother’s ashes for no reason, make sure you close it back so her remains aren’t spilled on all my clothes… the least you pieces of garbage can do is your f—ing job,” Francis tweeted.

Francis’s tweet included a photo of the suitcase with the spilled ashes and a “notice of baggage inspection” from the agency.

The agency responded using its @AskTSA account, which is meant to interact with the traveling public, saying its personnel should not have opened the container.

“We’re very sorry to hear about this. We understand the emotional stress travelers are under when transporting the remains of a loved one,” the agency said. “Our policies and procedures focus on ensuring that all passengers are treated with dignity, respect and courtesy.”

“Our officers are trained to handle your carry-on and checked property with care. Out of respect for the deceased, under no circumstances should the container be opened. Please accept our apologies and our condolences,” the account added.

Francis did not take the apology well, responding to the TSA: “Under all circumstances f— yourself.”

After the apology, Francis wrote another tweet saying he understood why the TSA checked the container, but that it was “irresponsible” not to ensure that the ashes wouldn’t spill following the inspection.

The agency responded to Francis, saying it wanted to “look further” into the incident and asked the airport that Francis flew through.

“We want to look further into this. Please let us know which airport you traveled through, as well as the airline and flight information,” the TSA wrote to Francis.
