Ferrari fined $3.5M for failing to report safety issues
Ferrari was hit with a $3.5 million fine Friday for not warning federal regulators of potential safety issues with its sports cars.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Ferrari’s parent company, Fiat, failed to file early warning reports with the agency about three fatal incidents involving Ferraris.
{mosads}Ferrari has been required to file these reports each quarter since 2011. The company self-reported the violation to the NHTSA, the agency noted.
“There is no excuse for failing to follow laws created to keep drivers safe, and our aggressive enforcement action today underscores the point that all automakers will be held accountable if they fail to do their part in our mission to keep Americans safe on the road,” Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in the statement.
Fiat sold more than 2,000 Ferraris here last year.
