LGBT Republican groups campaigning for Curbelo in Fla.

Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-Fla.) will receive an influx of support from dozens of gay Republicans who are campaigning for him in the final days before the election.

{mosads}Log Cabin Republicans President Gregory Angelo called Curbelo “one of the greatest advocates of LGBT freedom in the House of Representatives.”

That praise was echoed by the American Unity PAC, which said Curbelo is a “different kind of Republican.”

“His legislative record in Congress proves that he is a different kind of Republican, standing out for the freedom to marry, fighting to protect LGBT people from discrimination in the workplace and working to give all families a fair chance to succeed,” said Tyler Deaton, senior adviser at American Unity PAC.

Both groups support Republican candidates who will advance lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues while in office. The groups are sending about 50 people to Miami to knock on doors and make phone calls, encouraging people to vote for Curbelo.

Curbelo is locked in a tight reelection battle against Democratic challenger Joe Garcia, who previously held the seat before losing to Curbelo two years ago.

Curbelo is one of only two Republicans on the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus.

He is also among a handful of congressional Republicans who have said they will not vote for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Neither the Log Cabin Republicans nor American Unity PAC endorsed a presidential candidate this year, though most LGBT groups that are not linked to the GOP are backing Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
