Dem attacks Lynch over pot laws
A top Democrat is pressuring Attorney General Loretta Lynch to relax the nation’s drug laws.
In a rare attack from Democrats against the newly-minted attorney general, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) said Tuesday it is “crazy” that marijuana faces the same restrictions as more dangerous illegal drugs such as heroin and LSD.
{mosads}“We made the same mistake with marijuana that we made in the 1920s with alcohol,” Cohen said, during Lynch’s first appearance before the House Judiciary Committee.
Cohen pressured Lynch to remove marijuana from a list of federally-prohibited drugs, to no avail.
“It should not be there,” he said.
