Federal employees allowed to donate time off to La. flooding victims

President Obama is letting federal employees donate their paid days off to federal employees impacted by the historic flooding in Louisiana.

{mosads}In a presidential memorandum Tuesday, Obama directed the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to establish an emergency leave transfer program to allow employees in the executive and judicial branches to donate unused annual leave to employees in the same agencies who were adversely affected by the severe storms.

“The federal government has mobilized its resources to support Louisiana in response to and recovery from this major disaster,” Obama’s presidential memorandum said. “While federal departments and agencies rally their capabilities to support these efforts, many of those same Federal employees are personally impacted by the storms in Louisiana and are dealing with overwhelming personal losses.”

The White House said more than 70,000 people have registered for FEMA assistance after last month’s flooding damaged 40,000 homes.
