OMB deputy nominee heads to full Senate

{mosads}Deese has been praised by Democratic lawmakers in hearings before two committees over the last two weeks, during which Republicans did not even bother to show up to oppose his nomination.

“On issues ranging from the auto bailout to housing issues to tax policy, Mr. Deese has helped our country recover from the recession that hit our economy before President Obama took office,” Homeland Security Committee Chairman Tom Carper (D-Del.) said in a statement.

He added, “I am confident that he will continue to be an asset to the Administration and our nation as part of the senior leadership team of this critical agency.”

Deese’s path to confirmation is shaping up much like that of his would-be boss, OMB Director Sylvia Burwell, who was unanimously approved for the post by the Senate in late April.

As OMB deputy director, Deese will be responsible for helping to craft the White House’s budget and shaping the administration’s stance on fiscal policy.

He will also be charged with oversight of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, which reviews agency regulations before final publication.

Deese has been a top advisor of President Obama’s since his election in 2008.
