Senate approves back pay for federal workers affected by shutdown

The Senate passed a measure Monday night to ensure federal workers will get paid for the time they were furloughed during the three-day government shutdown.

By unanimous consent, the Senate passed a concurrent resolution as a “correction to the enrollment” of a government funding bill that would pay federal employees.

Employees at agencies across the federal government showed up for work Monday to prepare for the furlough.

An official at the White House Office of Management and Budget said furloughed employees were required to stop working after spending no more than four hours preparing for the suspension of operations.
