Giuliani: Georgia indictment ‘just the next chapter in a book of lies’
Rudy Giuliani, former President Trump’s personal attorney and longtime ally, called the charges in Georgia against himself, the former president and 17 other co-defendants “just the next chapter in a book of lies.”
“This indictment is an affront to American Democracy and does permanent, irrevocable harm to our justice system,” Giuliani wrote Tuesday morning on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “It’s just the next chapter in a book of lies with the purpose of framing President Donald Trump and anyone willing to take on the ruling regime.”
Giuliani also claimed the “ruling regime” lied about Russian collusion, President Biden’s “foreign bribery scheme” and the laptop hard drive of Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.
“The real criminals here are the people who have brought this case forward both directly and indirectly,” Giuliani wrote.
A grand jury in Georgia indicted Trump and 18 co-defendants, including Giuliani, over their efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in the state. Giuliani, who played a key role in Trump’s actions after the election, faces a total of 13 charges, including six counts related to an alleged scheme to submit the false slate of pro-Trump electors and a racketeering charge.
The indictment points to three Georgia state legislature committee hearings that Giuliani and other Trump allies attended and made false claims of mass electoral fraud. For each hearing, the former New York City mayor faces a count of soliciting lawmakers to violate their oaths of office by allegedly urging them to help send a slate of Trump electors and a count of making false statements.
Giuliani has also been identified as a potential target in special counsel Jack Smith’s federal investigation into rioting at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and Trump’s attempts to remain in power after losing the 2020 election.
