Convenience store and gas station chain Wawa has been the subject of a series of lawsuits after the company announced last week that many of its locations were affected by a months-long data breach.
At least six suits seeking class-action status have been filed in Philadelphia federal court against Wawa over the matter, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday.
The suits reportedly accuse Wawa of not sufficiently protecting its computer systems from hackers, and describe the company as being “cavalier” and “lackadaisical” about data security.
They also accuse Wawa of negligence, breach of contract and breaking consumer protection regulations, the Inquirer reported.
The Hill has reached out to Wawa for comment. A spokesperson declined to comment to the Inquirer due to the pending litigation.
The company said last week that customer debit and credit card information was collected between March 4 and Dec. 12 due to the breach.
The company said it was notifying potentially impacted individuals, but didn’t say how many people may have been affected.
Company CEO Chris Gheysens also apologized in a statement.
