EPA seeks small business input on power plant rules

The Environmental Protection Agency is looking for small businesses and nonprofits to sit on a panel and review the agency’s plan to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

The panel, a byproduct of the Regulatory Flexibility Act, will give feedback on the federal plan to cut greenhouse gas emission from electric generating units. The agency hopes to cut emissions from the electricity sector by 30 percent through low-carbon technologies and renewable energy.

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy has said the rule will spur energy innovation that will grow the economy and create job.

EPA said it’s looking for small entities, which could be subject to the rule requirements, to nominate themselves for the panel. Trade associations that represent small entities can also serve as representatives. Small entity representatives will be asked to provide advice and recommendations on behalf of their company, community, or organization and to inform the panel members about the potential impacts of the proposed rule on small entities, according to an EPA release.

Self-nominations must be received by Feb. 10.
