Listeria outbreak linked to Dole salads

A multistate outbreak of listeria is being linked to packaged salads processed at a Dole facility, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A total of 12 people in six states — Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania — have reported listeria infections since July 5, and one person in Michigan died, the agency said Friday.

{mosads}The contaminated salads were produced at the Dole processing facility in Springfield, Ohio, and sold under various brand names, including Dole, Fresh Selections, Simple Truth, Marketside, The Little Salad Bar and President’s Choice.

The CDC said products that were packaged at that facility and possibly contaminated will have a letter “A” at the beginning of the manufacturing code found on the package.

At this time, the agency said there is no evidence to suggest that packaged salads produced at other Dole processing facilities in the U.S. are linked to bacteria.
