Potty training? Capitol Police learn to keep track of their guns

Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine told lawmakers Wednesday he’s training police officers how to keep track of their weapons when nature calls.

{mosads}”We’re now providing additional training for what to do when you have to go to the bathroom,” Dine said Wednesday during a hearing about recent security lapses from the Capitol Police.

Multiple Capitol Police officers were found to have accidentally left their guns in public restrooms while on duty. These officers unholstered their weapons when they went to the bathroom, but forgot to grab them before they left.

In one instance, a small child later found a loaded weapon in the Speaker’s suite.

Lawmakers grilled Dine over the controversy.

House Administration Chairwoman Candice Miller (R-Mich.) suggested Capitol Police officers place their guns in a secure locked box before going to the bathroom.

“Obviously, we’re all biological human beings, and when someone has to go to the bathroom, you have to go to the bathroom,” Miller said.
