Gun group compares Bloomberg to Satan
A gun rights group is comparing Michael Bloomberg to Satan after the former New York City mayor declared “I have earned my place in heaven” because of his efforts to promote gun control.
The Gun Owners of America (GOA) said Bloomberg’s attempt to crack down on gun violence is not constitutional — or Biblical.
{mosads}”Bloomberg gets it really, really wrong,” the group wrote in an email Wednesday.
“So, guess what, in this Easter week, we note that even Satan quotes Scripture when he has no choice,” they said.
The group was referring to a Bible passage in which Satan mischaracterizes the Scriptures in an effort to tempt Jesus.
The statement came in the wake of Bloomberg’s announcement Wednesday that he is pumping $50 million into a new gun control group he founded named Everytown for Gun Safety, which he hopes will rival the power of National Rifle Association.
“I am telling you, if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed,” Bloomberg told The New York Times. “I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”
The GOA begs to differ. It pointed to several Bible passages that it says support the ownership of weapons and oppose arms control. “Jesus told his disciples to sell their cloaks and buy a sword,” it said.
The gun owners also accused former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens of expressing “idiotic ideas” about the Second Amendment in a new book.
“In a newly released book, Justice Stevens said the Second Amendment should be altered to say people only have the right to bear arms ‘when serving in the militia,’ ” the gun owners explained.
“Those words are code for, ‘We just want the military and the police to have guns,’ ” GOA spokesperson Erich Pratt said in an interview with Newsmax.
