Trump’s Georgia judge weighs if Willis, prosecutor must testify over romantic relationship: Watch live
Prosecutors in former President Trump’s Georgia criminal case will attempt to convince a judge on Monday to allow Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) and other staff to avoid testifying later this week about Willis’s romantic relationship with a top prosecutor in the case.
A push from Trump and some of his co-defendants to disqualify Willis’s office because of her relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade is scheduled to head to a hearing on Thursday.
Mike Roman, a Trump 2020 campaign operative charged alongside the former president who originally brought the relationship to light, subpoenaed Willis, Wade and others in the district attorney’s office to testify.
At Monday’s hearing, Judge Scott McAfee will weigh a motion from prosecutors to quash those subpoenas.
Willis and Wade have acknowledged developing a “personal relationship,” but they insist there is no reason for them to step aside.
However, the Fulton County prosecutors and Trump’s co-defendants disagree on when the pair’s relationship began – a timeline discrepancy that could prove consequential, if Wade and Willis began seeing each other before Willis hired Wade to oversee the election interference investigation.
The hearing will be livestreamed and can be watched on this page.
