President Biden on Monday suggested a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza could begin by next week.
Hamas leaders responded to the suggestion a cease-fire was imminent with a repudiation of terms discussed in peace negotiations last week.
Meanwhile, the White House is holding a meeting with congressional leaders Tuesday to overcome the impasse on funding for Israel, Ukraine and border security.
The briefing is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EST.
