White House press briefing: Watch live

Recorded earlier

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is scheduled to hold the daily briefing Tuesday.

President Biden, whose administration has recently been focusing on women’s health issues, released a statement in opposition to the Florida Supreme Court’s upholding the state’s 15-week abortion ban. That decision will also allow a six-week ban authorized by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) last year to go into effect this May.

Many states have enacted anti-abortion policies following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022, which ended the federal right to abortion. Some states, however, have voted to affirm a right to abortion.

This November, several states will vote on proposals that would codify abortion access, including Florida. The Biden campaign believes the effort in the Sunshine State could make the state more competitive than it was in 2020.

Tuesday’s briefing is slated to begin at 1:30 pm EDT.
