House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will address the media before attending Tuesday’s hearing in the trial of former President Trump on charges of illegal use of 2016 campaign funds.
The Speaker easily held his position last week in what was effectively a bipartisan vote of confidence, settling an attempt to unseat him by close Trump ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
Johnson’s visit to the New York City courtroom follows Monday’s attendance by Sens. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) and JD Vance (R-Ohio). Following that day’s hearing, Tuberville expressed “disappointment in the courtroom” — apparently referring specifically to the decorum in the proceedings. Both senators expressed skepticism over the credibility of the prominent witness for the prosecution, Michael Cohen.
Johnson is expected to speak at 10:15 a.m. EDT.
