Watch live: Biden gives remarks on release of Gershkovich, Whelan from Russia

President Biden is slated to deliver remarks Thursday afternoon on the release of two American prisoners held in Russia.

The prisoner swap is the largest between the United States and Russia since the Cold War. Among those being freed by Russia are Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, a U.S. official confirmed to The Hill.

Others reportedly being freed are Alsu Kurmasheva, a dual U.S.-Russian citizen and journalist with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty; Vladimir Kara-Murza, a U.S. resident and prominent Russian opposition politician; and allies of the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

The event is scheduled too begin at 12 p.m. EDT.
