Watch live: Harris, Walz make first campaign stop together

Vice President Harris will appear with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz in their first rally together Tuesday in Philadelphia, just hours after Harris’s announcement that Walz will be her running mate in this year’s election.

Polling shows that the Minnesota governor, also a former House member, was until today relatively unknown to most people in the U.S.

And the Harris-Walz rally follows close behind another event in Philadelphia from the opposing camp.

GOP vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) appeared with people affected by narcotics trafficking into the U.S., suggesting that border policy under the Biden-Harris administration has had a direct effect on the lives of Americans. Vance said he’s congratulated Walz on his candidacy, and said that he expects to debate his Democratic counterpart at some point following the Democratic National Convention.

The transfer of candidacy from President Biden to Harris necessitated a compressed schedule to select a name for the second spot on the Democratic ticket, with the sitting vice president holding interviews for a would-be successor at her Naval Observatory residence last weekend.

Tuesday’s event with Harris and Walz is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. EDT.
