President Biden speaks from the State Dining Room of the White House, Aug. 1, 2024, in Washington.

President Biden and first lady Jill Biden appeared at Tulane University in New Orleans Tuesday afternoon for the announcement of up to $150 million in federal funds for cancer surgery research.

The eight recipient institutions — which include Tulane, Rice University, Johns Hopkins and the imaging company Cision Vision — are participants in the Precision Surgical Interventions program of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). Together, their goal is to improve accuracy and precision in cancer surgery to reduce the need for repeated procedures when treating patients.
