Watch live: House GOP leaders hold presser as shutdown looms

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) right, and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) conduct a news conference at the Republican National Committee after a meeting with Republican presidential candidate former President Trump and the House Republican Conference on June 13, 2024.

House Republican leaders are held a press conference Tuesday morning following their closed-door meeting, as the threat of a government shutdown still hangs in the air.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and other GOP leaders have been forced to chance course on the process for considering a three-month government funding bill, abandoning plans to bring it up through regular action after opposition from some in the right flank threatened to block it.

Now, the stopgap — which would keep the government funded through Dec. 20 — is expected to hit the floor this week under suspension of the rules.

The presser is scheduled begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
