Watch: Buttigieg, Criswell testify on FEMA funding
The Senate Appropriations Committee held a hearing Wednesday focused on disaster relief funding requests in the aftermath of hurricanes Helene and Milton.
Witnesses included Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Deanne Criswell, Small Business Administrator Isabel Guzman, Department of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small and Housing and Urban Development Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman. Sens. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) will also give remarks.
It came a day after Criswell was grilled by the House Oversight Committee over a since-fired FEMA employee’s directive that staff avoid houses with signs favorable to President-elect Trump before the election. The employee said she was “simply following orders.”
The event also follows President Biden’s emergency request to Congress for roughly $100 billion in additional funding for natural disaster recovery.
The hearing on Wednesday was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST.
