Watch live: Biden hosts Medal of Honor ceremony

President Biden is set to award the Medal of Honor to seven U.S. Army soldiers in a ceremony Friday evening, with about two weeks left in his presidency.

The Medal of Honor is given to members of the armed service who distinguish themselves during combat. Six of the seven recipients will receive the award posthumously.

Earlier in the day, Biden honored eight people with a Medal of Valor — the highest honor for public safety officers. The nominees were recommended by the attorney general and a review board, which is made up of members appointed by the president, the Senate majority and minority leaders as well as the House Speaker and minority leader.

The ceremony comes a day after Biden honored former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) — who both served on the House panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol — and others with the Presidential Citizens Medal.

The event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. EST.
