Watch: White House holds briefing as wildfires ravage Southern California

Administrator of the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency Deanne Criswell speaks during the daily briefing as White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre looks on at the White House in Washington, Sept. 26, 2024.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Deanne Criswell briefed reporters Friday afternoon, as wildfires continue to devastate the Los Angeles region.

FEMA has already been on the ground in California, working with families who lost their homes in the deadly blazes. At least 10 people have been killed by the fires, thousands of people have been forced to evacuate and the water supply has taken a major hit.

President Biden vowed Thursday to offer federal support to the Golden State for up to 180 days. He and Vice President Harris have also canceled trips and events in recent days in order to focus on combatting the wildfires.

Biden and other key administration officials held a briefing on the federal response earlier Friday.
