Americans’ overall trust in medical scientists is falling to a lower level than before the pandemic, according to a recent Pew Research Center study, underscoring how much the politics surroundin the COVID-19 epidemic has changed how Americans look at public health.

It’s an issue with risks going forward, especially as outbraks of whooping cough and the measles surge to much higher levels.

In addition to debates about vaccines, Americans are now battling over the safety of fluoridated water and pasteurized milk, among other issues.
