Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who was tapped by President-elect Trump for Secretary of State, testified Wednesday morning before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during a confirmation hearing.

Rubio, who has represented Florida in the upper chamber since 2011, was a notable rival of Trump’s in the 2016 election, but has since become an ally. The Sunshine State Republican, who endorsed president-elect, was also floated as a possible vice-presidential candidate.

During the hearing Wednesday, he was expected to tell his colleagues that the Trump administration will place American interests “above all else,” according to prepared remarks.

If confirmed, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) will have to appoint someone to finish Rubio’s term in the Senate. DeSantis said he will decide sometime around the inauguration, now less than a week away.

The event was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST.
