Watch: Noem faces Senate confirmation hearing to lead DHS
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R), President-elect Trump’s choice to lead the Department of Homeland Security, testified before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) Friday morning.
The confirmation hearing was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but was postponed due to paperwork issues, according to an HSGAC aide.
Noem has led the Mount Rushmore State since 2019 and was floated as a possible running mate for Trump last year. Her prospects for the No. 2 spot, however, appeared to fizzle out after the release of her autobiography, in which she detailed killing a dog she described as untrainable.
The hearing was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. EST.
