Watch: Jeffries, CBC chair hold press conference after Trump DEI attack

NOW PLAYING

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chair Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.) held a press conference Friday morning, a day after President Trump seemed to blame diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs for a recent fatal plane crash near Washington.

Trump spoke to the press from the White House briefing room on Thursday about the recent crash between an American Airlines passenger plane and Army Black Hawk helicopter outside of Reagan Washington National Airport. He lambasted the Biden and Obama administrations in his comments, taking aim specifically at hiring initiatives.

The CBC sharply criticized Trump after the claim, calling his remarks a “truly disgusting and disgraceful display of racist political prognostication.”

In recent days, the president has also taken executive actions to dissolve DEI efforts across the federal government and within the aviation sector.

The lawmakers will also address Trump’s effort to freeze federal grants, a move that has been temporarily paused.

The press conference was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. EST.
