Watch: House GOP leaders hold press conference ahead of key budget vote
House Republican leaders held a press briefing Tuesday morning following a closed-door meeting and ahead of a key vote on the budget resolution.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and his leadership team are searching for consensus on the blueprint that will advance President Trump’s legislative agenda. The legislation, which includes funding for border security, energy polices and tax cuts, has faced some resistance within the GOP — including some who have voiced frustration with the proposed spending cuts.
The House Rules Committee advanced the resolution on Monday, sending it to the full chamber.
Johnson is eyeing a Tuesday vote, as the March 14 deadline to avert a government shutdown inches closer. Republicans, even with every lawmaker present, can only afford to lose one GOP vote.
The conference’s remarks were scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST.
