Watch: Progressive lawmakers speak on GOP’s budget reconciliation hopes

The Congressional Progressive Caucus gave remarks Tuesday morning on the GOP-led budget resolution, which Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is hoping to bring to a floor vote in the afternoon.

Their remarks came as Democrats have increasingly fumed about their party leadership’s early response to President Trump and his legislative agenda. Members of the caucus, led by Rep. Greg Casar (D-Texas), have argued that while the president has enjoyed a honeymoon period, they need to coalesce around a unified countermessage.

With government funding set to lapse on March 14, Republicans can only afford to lose one party vote if they are to use reconciliation to advance Trump’s priorities.

Progressives in particular are also struggling with recruitment, morale and fundraising as they seek a path forward heading into next year’s midterm elections.

The Tuesday morning press conference was scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. EST.
