Watch: White House holds briefing after Trump’s address to Congress

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt held a press conference Wednesday afternoon, just a day after President Trump gave his first address to a joint session of Congress since returning to office in January.

Tuesday’s event gave Trump a chance to underscore his sweeping actions during the first six weeks of his second term — from overhauling the federal workforce to robust immigration policies to executive orders on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs, gender and education, among other issues — and to defend his actions to critics.

Still, two issues rise to the top: ending the war in Ukraine and the economy, including the president’s tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico and China.

The briefing comes as a mineral deal between Washington and Kyiv is still on the line after the U.S. froze aid to Ukraine following a spat between Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the Oval Office last week — and as Americans continue to face rising costs.

The event was scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EST.
