Former Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.), President Trump’s choice for ambassador to China, will testify before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Thursday morning.

Perdue, who served as a senator from 2015 to 2021, was a member of both the Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees. He ran for governor of Georgia in 2021 and was endorsed by Trump.

His confirmation hearing comes a day after the president imposed sweeping tariffs on nearly all foreign countriesincluding China, which took one of the hardest hits. The Chinese government has condemned the additional 34 percent tariffs added to an already 20 percent tax on its products imported into the U.S. and has vowed to fight back.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
