Watch: Bessent speaks to bankers about US economy
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent spoke with investors Tuesday morning at a summit hosted by the American Bankers Association.
His remarks came as the U.S. economy has been under the microscope after President Trump issued sweeping tariffs on nearly all foreign trading partners. Aside from a 10 percent baseline tariff that went into effect over the weekend, the administration’s reciprocal tariffs began early Wednesday, including a 104 percent import tax on China.
Dips in the stock market and questions around the impact of the tariffs on consumer prices have also sparked fears of a potential recession.
