Watch: Schumer, Democrats rail against Trump tariff agenda

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and other top Democrats made remarks Wednesday afternoon in response sweeping tariffs imposed on global trading partners by the Trump administration.

Their remarks came just an hour after President Trump issued a 90-day “pause” on tariffs for nations other than China, which is hit with a 125 percent tariff.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and economists have warned of potential adverse effects of increased import taxes on the U.S. economy and consumer prices.

It also followed last week’s introduction of bipartisan legislation in the upper chamber that would require the White House to receive congressional approval to issue new tariffs. Democrats are pressing their GOP colleagues to hold a hearing on the president’s tariff agenda amid a growing trade war.
