Watch: Schiff speaks after Senate Democrats reintroduce assault weapons ban
Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) gave remarks Wednesday afternoon on legislation reintroduced by Senate Democrats that would ban assault weapons
The proposal, led by Schiff and Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), would prohibit the purchase and possession of high-powered semiautomatic firearms — such as the AR-15 rifle. Advocates from several gun-control groups, including Brady, Giffords and Newtown Action Alliance, are expected to be in attendance.
Despite their push, the bill has little chance of advancing with Republicans in control of the White House and both chambers of Congress.
The press conference on Capitol Hill was scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
