Watch: Trump, Canadian prime minister hold bilateral meeting amid tariff tension

President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will hold a bilateral meeting at the White House on Tuesday.

Carney’s visit comes as tensions have emerged between the two trading partners due to Trump’s sweeping tariffs — including 25 percent import taxes on Ottawa — and his proposal for Canada to become part of the U.S.

Fresh off his election victory last week to succeed former leader Justin Trudeau, Carney has already warned that “our old relationship, based on steadily increasing integration, is over.” Meanwhile, Trump has signaled optimism ahead of the visit, predicting that the pair will have “a great relationship.”

The event is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. EDT.
