Listen live: Supreme Court considers birthright citizenship amid Trump immigration battle

NOW PLAYING

The Supreme Court on Thursday morning will hold its final oral arguments of the term, looking into narrowing the scope of birthright citizenship — a 14th Amendment principle that says a person born within the U.S. and subject to law is automatically granted citizenship.

The case comes amid President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration. On his first day in office, Trump signed an executive order to end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented parents. Following several setbacks delivered by federal judges, the administration appealed to the nation’s highest court.

The justices won’t be directly addressing the president’s executive actions.

The arguments are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
