Watch: Rubio testifies before House on State Department budget

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is testified Wednesday afternoon before the House Appropriations Committee on the State Department’s fiscal 2026 budget request.

Rubio, who has defended the Trump administration’s foreign policy on Capitol Hill during several hearings this week, has been a major force behind President Trump’s efforts to broker a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine as well as a ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.

In the State Department’s budget request, federal funding for international development would be significantly reduced. The move comes months after the Trump administration largely dismantled the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Rubio also faced intense questioning from his former colleagues during his appearance before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday and from the House Foreign Relations Committee earlier Wednesday.

The Foreign Affairs Committee hearing is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EDT.
