Watch: Duffy gives update on recovery from Newark airport chaos

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy appears before a Senate Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee budget hearing, May 15, 2025, in Washington.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy briefed reporters Wednesday afternoon on recovery efforts at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey — which suffered numerous delays and cancellations in recent weeks due to system outages and a shortage of air traffic controllers.

Duffy earlier this month called for a massive investment of billions of dollars in the country’s air traffic control system following a series of issues that have plagued it, including outdated technology. The Transportation chief also recently launched a cash incentive program aimed at recruiting and retaining air traffic controllers.

The moves come after President Trump and the secretary vowed to overhaul the Federal Aviation Administration.

The press conference was scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. EDT.
