Education Secretary Linda McMahon will testify Tuesday morning before the Senate Appropriations Committee on the department’s fiscal 2026 budget request.

The request by the Trump administration — which has already made moves to dismantle the Education Department, sparking legal action — includes major cuts to federal education and research programs, putting a focus on state and local education systems. It also includes a boost in charter school grants.

The hearing comes as tensions between President Trump and higher education have reached a boiling point amid the president’s crackdown on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs and illegal immigration.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
