Watch: Trump’s pick to lead FAA faces Senate confirmation hearing
Bryan Bedford, President Trump’s pick to lead the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), testified Wednesday before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
The confirmation hearing came as the FAA has faced significant backlash following major aviation accidents, multiple system outages and air traffic control shortages. Recent chaos at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey also shined a spotlight on the agency’s antiquated technology.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Trump alike have vowed to overhaul the agency, announcing recruitment and retention programs for air traffic controllers and proposing more investment into modernizing the technology.
