Watch: Jeffries, Schumer give remarks on GOP megabill

Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) exit Schumer's office after a meeting to discuss President Trump's tariffs and Senate-led budget resolution on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) held a news conference Wednesday morning in opposition to President Trump’s “big, beautiful” reconciliation package.

The two leaders have been vocal critics of the legislation that includes sweeping cuts to Medicaid and green tax credits, offers an extension on Trump’s 2017 tax cuts and raises the debt limit.

Earlier this month, Schumer dubbed the bill the “Well, We’re All Going to Die Act.”

The House GOP-passed legislation currently faces an uphill battle in the Senate and will likely undergo changes.

The presser was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
