Watch: House Republicans give remarks as Senate weighs GOP megabill

Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) listens to Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) as Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) addresses reporters after a closed-door House Republican conference meeting to discuss the One Big Beautiful Bill Act with President Trump on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and other House GOP leaders gave remarks Tuesday morning as the clock ticks on advancing President Trump’s “big, beautiful” spending package through the Senate before a July 4 deadline.

The self-imposed deadline is less than two weeks away as the upper chamber mulls changes to the House-passed bill — and after several measures were rejected by the Senate parliamentarian.

It also came as lawmakers question Trump’s authorization of U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities over the weekend without consulting Congress. Johnson has largely stood behind the president, coming out against a bipartisan war powers resolution that would block the administration from intervening further in the conflict.
