Watch: House Dems give remarks on abortion rights on third anniversary of Dobbs
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and other top Democrats will gave remarks Tuesday on the third anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health decision.
The 2022 ruling overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the federal right to abortion. Since the decision was announced, at least 12 states have implemented total abortion bans, and 29 states have instituted restrictions on abortions ranging from six weeks to 22 weeks of pregnancy, data from health policy nonprofit KFF shows. Just nine states and the nation’s capital have not implemented a limit.
Their comments came after the Trump administration earlier this month rescinded guidance telling health care workers who provide abortions to save patients’ lives that they are protected under federal law. The move has stoked both fear and confusion.
Despite the limitations, more women were able to access abortion care in 2024 than the previous year, according to a new report.
