Neil Jacobs, who was tapped by President Trump to lead the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), faced the Senate in a confirmation hearing Wednesday .
Jacobs’s testimony before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee came just days after heavy rainfall and disastrous flooding killed more than 100 people in Texas’s Hill Country — including more than two dozen children and counselors at an all-girls Christian camp. The news has sparked questions around the Trump administration’s moves to cut climate research and jobs at the agency deemed crucial to weather forecasting.
Trump is expected to visit the affected area on Friday.
The hearing was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
