Watch: Trump speaks with Philippine president on trade, China
President Trump on Tuesday is holding a bilateral meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the White House.
Earlier this month, the Philippine ambassador to the U.S. said the talks would focus on how the nations can deepen their security and economic ties, including threats from China and potential trade negotiations.
The meeting also comes just weeks after Trump unveiled his latest tariff plans following a 90-day pause on reciprocal duties. When the Aug. 1 deadline arrives, the island nation is expected to face a 20 percent tariff on goods imported to the U.S. — a 3 percent increase from the previous “Liberation Day” rate.
A press event was scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. EDT.
